Full circle og motte fra Lübech living. A full circle of sustainable thinking, care for tomorrow - shape the future

Sustainability – a part of our DNA

The goal and values behind the 17 world global goals lie deep in Lübech Living’s DNA and since 2009 we have worked with 7 of the UN’s 17 goals.

7 years before, in 2009, the UN published the 17 global goals. Instead of choosing which goals we want to work with, Lübech Living has read the world goals and found that our sustainable business is already working with world goals 1, 5, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 17.

Lübech Living made a decision in 2009 to convert our business from a conventional company to a sustainable company. We wanted to set new sustainable and responsible standards in the interior industry. This for our own company as well as we wanted to inspire other companies to do the same.

Full Circle

All our products are handmade and produced under sustainable conditions without compromising on quality and style. Sustainability comes in many sizes and shapes, we want to make as much effort as possible by focusing on the entire process and are very thorough in examining our entire supply chain, as it is important to us that our Co2 footprint is as small as possible.

We work on a daily basis with our own Full Circle of Sustainable Thinking, where we ensure our environmental and social responsibility in the product and production – from cradle to grave. From design to the finished product. From timeless design to raw material, production method, working conditions, packaging, transport, product function, biodegradability and recycling.

No Poverty

We contribute to the eradication of poverty by creating jobs for vulnerable population groups in Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Thailand. With our projects in Sri Lanka and Vietnam, we help population groups that normally do not have the opportunity to enter the labor market to generate an income. In close dialogue with our partners, we train them to manufacture our products at home so that they have the opportunity to look after their children and home while generating an income.

Our fair trade wages are structured so that their payment is the same per product regardless of how much they produce per week. This is in respect and understanding that unforeseen tasks with home and children may arise during the week. We produce exclusively handmade products with the goal of employing as many as possible and not letting these be replaced by machines.

Gender Equality

The majority of OOhh’s collection is produced by home-based women in Sri Lanka and Vietnam. A large proportion are women who do not have the opportunity to work outside their own home and thereby generate an income. In Sri Lanka, we primarily work with younger women who stay at home to look after their children, as there is no childcare system for the smallest and there is a concern about abuse of daughters when they become teenagers. In Vietnam, we work with women who can no longer work in the fields as well as seasonal workers when there is not enough work in the fields.

In Sri Lanka, since 2010, Susanne Lübech has spent a lot of time with the women to show interest in their work, to make sure that they feel good about their jobs and to show them our great gratitude and respect that they are a part of our project. In Vietnam, we have a trusted business partner with whom we have worked since 2015 and who ensures good conditions for the women.

Decent Work & Economic Growth

We attach great importance to our strategy and work creating value for as many people as possible. This applies internally at Lübech Living as well as at our suppliers and other business partners. Decency in our business is incredibly important and we take great responsibility in investing time in people who need support in the form of education, attendance, working conditions and a fair salary.

In Denmark we support various projects, we hire through socio-economic projects, we work with our women’s projects in Sri Lanka and Vietnam. Through Vance Kitira, we support the local community in northern Thailand. In the future, the desire is to help create more decent jobs for both men and women both nationally and internationally.

Reduced Inequalities

The inequality in the developing countries cannot be overlooked. This is very pronounced in several of the markets where Lübech Living works. When choosing manufacturers and partners, we select based on written criteria suppliers who have a good employee policy, which involves a good salary policy, good working conditions incl. limited working hours, equal conditions for men and women and a safe working environment. Lübech Living deliberately has a small, limited supplier network, so that we have the opportunity to visit everyone and ensure the working conditions and be in continuous dialogue with our partners.

In the future, we at Lübech Living will create more projects that can help to ensure that the poorest parts of the population will have improved living conditions. We will fight to minimize inequality in the countries where we have the opportunity to do so.

Responsible Consumption & Production

The foundation for Lübech Living’s product portfolio is circular economy. We strive to minimize waste and produce primarily from recycled material, various upcycled materials and renewable resources.

We work actively to ensure that energy consumption is reduced to the absolute minimum in our production. We produce exclusively handmade products with the aim of 1) reducing our CO2 footprint in production 2) reducing the minimum requirements for production and thus overproducing.

We produce our zero waste paper from paper waste and dry it in natural sunlight. All paper products are produced exclusively by hand and are also dried outside in the natural sunlight. The paper products include flower pots, decorative items, Christmas decorations and baskets. In the production of both glass and ceramics, solar energy is used and in the ceramics also water recycling to reduce the consumption of water in production.

We produce our products in timeless colours, to reduce the “buy new culture” and produce with minimal risk of producing goods for sale.

All packaging is reduced to a minimum and produced from recycled paper. We work with Oohh’s nesting system, which means that we optimize our transport and have thus reduced our CO2 footprint during import and export significantly compared to before and according to the standard in our industry.

We would like to be an active part of the fight against climate change and part of our vision is to be at the forefront of our industry to show and motivate our industry to contribute to more sustainable production in our industry.

Climate Action

Taking care of our climate is a global challenge that requires efforts from all parties, including companies and suppliers. As a responsible company, it is important for OOhh to be in close and continuous dialogue with our suppliers and partners to ensure our sustainable production in the desire to leave as small a CO2 footprint as possible.

We have implemented Lübech Living’s Circle of Sustainable Thinking, which forms the foundation for promoting and ensuring Lübech Living’s minimal CO2 footprint from cradle to cradle – from timeless design, to raw materials, production methods, packaging, transport, in function, the product’s lifetime and biodegradable process.

Our production also takes place with solar energy and natural sunlight, which is a more environmentally friendly way of production, and we also recycle water in our production to reduce our water consumption.

Partnerships For The Goals

Lübech Living takes great pride in building long-term partnerships with our business partners around the world. We work with a few selected suppliers so that we regularly have the opportunity to visit our partners and ensure that we work towards a common, even more sustainable future. We are privileged to produce in e.g. Thailand, Vietnam and Sri Lanka, as many people in these countries have extensive experience with scarce resources and the environment incredibly dear. We therefore learn both ways and build good, strong shared values for the benefit of tomorrow.

We can’t wait to see where sustainability will take us next.
